Crews from the Rising Sun Volunteer Fire Company were called shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12 to Post Road, where residents advised that a kitchen fire had broken out.
Upon arrival, firefighters were met by flames and smoke showing from the home, which suffered extensive damage before the scene was declared under control approximately 45 minutes later, investigators said.
It caused an estimated $250,000 in damage, according to the Maryland Fire Marshal. Two people refused paramedics' assistance at the scene, and seven dogs died as a result.
Residents are now being assisted by the Red Cross following the fire.
